Overview

 

In 2015, receiving support from the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres and the Hong Kong Christian Council, the Centre for Catholic Studies launched a three-year research project on “Hong Kong Ecumenical Movement” aiming to analyse the cooperation and relationship between the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church in Hong Kong, to explore Christians attitude and participation in Christian Unity in the past century in Hong Kong, a city comprises of different Christian denominations, and from there, analyse the characteristics of the Ecumenical Movement in Hong Kong and its gain and loss.

 

In the course of the research, Dr. Tong Wing-sze and her team members have written several research papers, covering the historical integration and analysis of the Ecumenical Movement, as well as exploring the current situation of the Movement. These articles have been collected and compiled into the Ecumenical Movement in Hong Kong: Then and Now as the fruit of the research project. The book was published in November 2018.

 

In addition, the Centre also held the “International Conference on the Asian Ecumenical Movement” at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on April 12-13, 2018. Speakers from India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan shared their experience in Ecumenism, reflecting the implementation of Ecumenism in Asia from multiple perspectives, and elaborated some development directions for the Movement. The papers presented at the conference were published by the Centre in Issue No. 9 of the Hong Kong Journal of Catholic Studies.
