Spiritual Exercises and Ignatian Spiritual Direction in Contemporary Times 〈神操與依納爵靈修指導的當代實踐〉

Chief Editor: Fr. Stephen Tong, SJ (董澤龍神父主編)

  1. A cannonball upended the life of a young man with dreams of worldly success 500 years ago. Thus began the conversion of Ignatius of Loyola who later founded the Society of Jesus. March 2022 also marks the 400th anniversary of the canonization of Ignatius and Francis Xavier, one of the greatest missionaries of the Catholic Church. As the Society of Jesus and mission partners worldwide, including the Centre for Catholic Studies, CUHK, celebrate the Ignatian Year (from May 2021 through July 2022), we are called to “see all things new in Christ.” We join a world, wrestling with numerous crises—not least the COVID-19 pandemic—as we renew our mission, inspired by Ignatian spirituality. Eight contributors have joined us in this issue to share their insights on the Spiritual Exercises and Ignatian Spiritual Direction. What is discernment? What is at stake? What does it mean to undertake a journey of conversion, or accompany another on such a journey? As we set out to discern and put in practice the Universal Apostolic Preferences 2019-2029, we invite you to likewise see with new eyes your everyday life, full of encounters and possible transformation toward integrity (wholeness) and hope. It is the hour of Dawn.
